LinkedIn Hashtag Strategy: How Many and Which Ones
Hashtags are LinkedIn's discovery engine. Use the right ones and your posts reach people beyond your network. Use the wrong ones and you're shouting into the void.
How Many Hashtags Should You Use?
LinkedIn recommends 3-5 hashtags per post. I've tested this extensively:
- 1-2 hashtags: Limited reach, but clean look
- 3-5 hashtags: Sweet spot for discovery + readability
- 6-10 hashtags: Diminishing returns, looks spammy
- 10+ hashtags: Counterproductive — hurts engagement
Types of Hashtags to Use
Broad hashtags (high volume)
#LinkedIn #Career #Business #Leadership — these have millions of followers but tons of competition.
Niche hashtags (medium volume)
#LinkedInTips #ContentCreation #PersonalBranding — less competition, more targeted audience.
Branded hashtags (low volume)
#LinkPolish #YourBrandName — build your own community over time.
The Ideal Hashtag Mix
Use 1 broad + 2-3 niche + 1 branded hashtag per post. Example: "Check out my new post made with #LinkPolish ✨ #LinkedInTips #ContentCreation #PersonalBranding"
